About
Dark Horse has a work-from-anywhere culture. This is a natural fit for Bree Lima, who grew up in what she calls a rather nomadic family, living in various places up and down the east coast as a child. In a sense, she was working from anywhere…anywhere her family’s travels took her while she completed her primary education. Maybe because she was implicitly looking to establish some roots, she decided to take a position as a bookkeeper at a flower shop. While that pun might be a stretch, an even larger (geographical) stretch was moving to Texas to plant those roots and tend to the germination of the seed of accounting.
Many other seeds were planted all at once…she got married, earned her accounting degree from the University of Houston-Victoria, she bought a home, and had her son all within the same year. Maybe that was a reaction against the nomadic lifestyle she grew up in. Or, maybe it was more of a coming of age where she realized she had the power to create the life she wanted.
When not tending the various gardens of accounting or motherhood, you can find Bree curled up with a cup of tea and a good book, traveling to eclectic destinations for a weekend, or knocking heads together at her Krav Maga class. And, maybe surprisingly, you probably won’t find her tending an actual garden since she admittedly has trouble keeping any plant alive.
